1. Locate flat area on pump where Pump Overheat Protection Switch will be placed wipe area clean and dry.
2. Twist and blend our amazing New (Twist -N-Fix RIBBON EPOXY) until colors blend and turn green, place equal amounts of green epoxy on Pump Overheat Protection Switch as shown here on our How to page.
3. Press Pump Overheat Protection Switch firmly against pump with a slight twisting motion, making sure that the (heat sink transfer plate sensor) is in good contact with the pump housing.(It will hold itself in place until it hardens (about 1hr) without clamps.)
4. Electric wiring is to simply to wire in line to either one of the supply lines (L1 or L2), at the pressure switch, relay or to the back of the motor or pump station controller. Handle full voltages up to (240 volts 30 amps max)

WHAT CAUSES PUMPS TO BREAK DOWN?
Bad or mis-adjusted pressure switch, stuck pressure switch, bad check valve, electrical arching in switch - (welds the points shut), pump relays stick on and don't turn off the pump - (not shutting off) Pressure tank bladder can be bad on pump, pressure tube going to pressure switch can be clogged causing pump not to shut off, or maybe a zone valve don't open: ( one or more zones may not work .... When the timer turns on the pump for the watering time programmed but the electric valve don"t open to let the water flow, This is what causes the pump to over heat.
Here are just a few scenarios:
If you have an irrigation system with a pump start relay, and lets say you have 6 zones to water...
And the valve on #3, or any valve for that matter, Does not open, Due to what ever reason. The Overheat Protection Switch will shut off the pump on the zone that is broken.Then when it gets to the other zones that do work, the pump will cool down to 110 F. and continue to operate and finish the watering cycle, INSTEAD OF HAVING A TOTAL SYSTEM FAILURE. (nothing works)
At that point you might notice that the lawn grass or landscape may look dry on the zone with the broken valve, and you will only need to fix the broken valve on that zone and not the pump.
Or If it is a problem like the pump wont shut off due to a bad pressure switch, or it may be due to lower than usual water tables, or if the pump is on a pump start relay, and the system has been turned off at the main shut off (ball valve), Then no water will move thru the pipes.
It takes about 10-15 minutes to reach 120 F. The pump will automatically shut off , (saving the pump from a meltdown.) Then it will turn on again at 110 F. This takes about 30-50 minutes to turn back on. Then approximately 10 minutes later it will shut off again if the problem is still present.
THIS CYCLING WILL NOT DO ANY DAMAGE TO THE PUMP OR ITS FITTINGS, KEEPING THE PUMP SAFE, UNTIL REPAIRS CAN BE MADE.
